Simple Calendar

What this offline calendar is used for

Simple Calendar is a monthly calendar for Android that runs on the phone and does not need an internet connection to show or edit events. The listing presents it as a personal scheduler and names several uses: a work calendar, a day planner, an appointment book, and a place to track single or recurring events such as birthdays and anniversaries.

The listing says the app shows no pop-up messages and that it is open source and translated into more than 45 languages. It also states that the default look is a material design theme with a dark option.

Syncing with Google Calendar and other CalDAV services

Simple Calendar can sync events through CalDAV, the protocol used by services such as Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, Nextcloud and Exchange. Syncing depends on having an account with the service you connect to, and the events you see on the phone follow what is stored there.

Events can also move in and out of the app as .ics files, the standard calendar format. The calendar can export its settings to a .txt file, which you can import on another device to carry your setup across.

Creating events, repeats and reminders

Each event can have a start time, a duration, one or more reminders and a repetition rule, which covers recurring events such as weekly appointments, birthdays and anniversaries. The listing describes the repetition options as powerful, and the events can be filtered by type so that a single category of entry can be shown on its own.

Reminders can be set to a chosen sound, which can loop, play on a selected audio stream and vibrate. The notification appearance can also be customized. An event can carry a location, which the listing says is shown on a map, and events can be shared through social media, email and other channels.

Viewing your day, week, month and agenda

The app switches between day, weekly, monthly and yearly views, and it also shows events as a plain list. The list view puts upcoming events in order without the grid, which suits anyone who wants an agenda rather than a calendar layout.

The home screen widget can show colorful calendars with customizable themes, so the schedule is visible without opening the app. The listing also describes an itinerary view for a business calendar shared between teams.

Family organizing and imported dates

The family organizer part of the app lets you duplicate events quickly, which the listing presents as a way to share a common schedule among household members. Holidays, contact birthdays and anniversaries can be imported into the calendar, so recurring personal dates appear alongside appointments.
