What Slowly is and who it suits

Slowly is built around written correspondence. You write letters to penpals in other countries and wait for their replies, so a conversation moves at the pace of the post rather than a chat window.

The listing aims it at people who would rather take their time over a friendship. It names three uses: finding foreign friends, finding a language exchange partner, and simply having a quiet place to write a letter worth reading.

How letter delivery timing works

Each letter takes a while to reach its recipient. The listing gives the range as anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

The delay depends on how far apart you and your penpal are, so a correspondent on the other side of the world will generally wait longer for each reply than one nearby.

Finding foreign friends and language partners

The app's summary describes it as a way to find foreign friends, language exchange partners and close friends through pen pals. Those are the three kinds of connection it is promoted for.

For someone practising a second language, the appeal is a steady exchange of letters with a native speaker of that language, written and answered over days rather than in a single session.

Community size and ratings on Google Play

Google Play lists Slowly at more than 5,000,000 installs, with 172,743 ratings averaging 4.36 out of 5.

The app is rated for teen audiences on the store, and its listing is in the Social category.
