What SumUp Local is for

SumUp Local is a loyalty app for shoppers who buy from independent shops and want their rewards in one place. The developer says it brings stamp cards and points schemes from thousands of local businesses into a single account. It is aimed at people who already use small shops and cafés and would rather not carry a wallet full of paper cards.

Its core job is tracking. You add the businesses you use, and the app keeps count of what you have collected from each one. The listing describes it as a replacement for paper loyalty cards.

Collecting stamps and points at local shops

At a participating business you collect stamps or points, depending on how that shop runs its scheme. Each collection is recorded in the app, so you can see your progress across every shop in one list.

The listing says you receive a notification each time you earn something, which means you do not have to check each card yourself.

Earning rewards with a linked payment card

You link a payment card to the app once. After that, the listing says rewards are added automatically whenever you pay with that card at a participating business, so there is no stamp to hand over at the till.

This works only at businesses that take part in the scheme. Shops outside it will not add anything to your balance.

Redeeming rewards and getting alerts

When a reward is ready, you redeem it in store with one tap in the app. The listing also describes alerts for when you are close to a reward and when it is time to redeem, so you can plan a visit around a free item or discount.

Because all your cards sit in the same app, the redemption screen and the progress view cover every business you have joined. You do not need a separate app for each shop.
