T-Mobile Device Unlock (Pixel)

What the T-Mobile Pixel unlock app is for

T-Mobile Device Unlock (Pixel) is an app from T-Mobile USA for unlocking a Google Pixel phone on the T-Mobile network. It is aimed at owners of a T-Mobile Pixel who want to request an unlock themselves.

The listing describes the app as a way to request an unlock without calling T-Mobile Customer Service. The whole request happens in the app.

Permanent and temporary Pixel unlock requests

The app handles two kinds of request: a permanent unlock and a temporary unlock. The listing does not say how the two differ beyond the name, so the choice is made from the options the app presents.

Both are submitted from the phone. The app then works through the request on its own, with no call to a support line.

Eligibility check and the unlock operation

Before any unlock is carried out, the app checks whether the device is eligible. Only after that check does it perform the unlock operation.

The listing says the app needs a T-Mobile SIM card inserted into the device before it is opened. Without that step set up first, the request starts from the wrong place.

Device restart after the unlock

The listing notes that the unlock may require a device restart for the change to take effect. The restart is not described as automatic, so the phone may need to be rebooted by hand once the unlock finishes.
