What Tap Scroll does on long pages

Tap Scroll is a small utility for getting back to the top of a scrolling page without swiping up over and over. It is aimed at people who read long web pages, go through mail lists or work through long documents on Android. The listing describes one way to return to the top: tap the status bar at the top of the screen.

The developer presents it as an alternative to the long upward flick, which is the situation it describes most. The tap is meant for the moment after you have scrolled down some distance and want the start of the page again.

Returning to the top with a status bar tap

The main feature is a single tap on the status bar, the thin strip across the top of the screen that holds the clock and icons. After that tap, the app moves the current page back to its top. The listing says this happens quickly, so the return is not a slow drag back up the page.

The steps the listing describes are short. You scroll down as you normally would, then tap once on the status bar when you want to go back. The description covers no other action.

Web pages, mail lists and long documents

The listing names three kinds of screen where the tap is useful: a web page, a mail list and a long document. Its example asks you to open an app with a scrolling page, so the tap is not tied to one app. Any scrolling screen of that kind fits the same pattern.

The same single tap applies in each case, so there is nothing to learn for each type of page.

When a one-tap return to the top helps

The situation the app addresses is familiar to anyone who reads long articles, checks long mail lists or moves through a long document: you have scrolled far down and want the start again. Tap Scroll is built around that one moment.

The listing says nothing beyond that single use, so the app's scope is the return to the top and no more.
