The Home Depot

What The Home Depot app is for

The Home Depot app is the retailer's shopping app, with access to more than one million products. It is built around people buying materials and tools for home and DIY projects, and it can be used to research an item before going to the store or while standing in the aisle.

Most of the app's features fall into three areas: finding a product, checking whether a store has it, and managing orders. The account features are optional and sit on top of the rest.

Finding a product by photo or barcode

If you do not know what a part or tool is called, Image Search can work from a photo of it. You take a picture and the app tries to identify the item for you.

The barcode reader works on products in front of you. Scan an item and the app shows what other customers have written in their ratings and reviews, which the developer says appear within seconds.

Checking store stock and finding the aisle

Product Locator checks store inventory for an item, so you can see whether your local store has it before you travel there. It also gives the exact aisle and bay where the product is shelved, which removes the need to search the store floor.

Order tracking, history and checkout with an account

Signing up is free. A signed-in account gives real-time order tracking, a record of your past purchases, and instant checkout. The tracking and history features need the account, so they are not available to someone shopping without one.

The developer lists these as the reasons to sign up, alongside 'and more' features that the listing does not name.

Daily Special Buy and the local ad

A Special Buy appears on the app's home screen each day, so a deal is visible without searching for it. The app also has your local ad, which carries the store's current promotions for your area.
