What UBS Access is for
UBS Access is a companion app for customers of UBS who bank online. It runs on a phone and works with UBS E-Banking in a browser and with the UBS Mobile Banking app. The developer presents it as a replacement for a separate card reader, with the phone handling login and payment approval.
It suits people who already bank with UBS and want to sign in and approve transactions from the phone they carry. The listing describes two main jobs: logging in, and confirming actions that would otherwise need a second step.
Logging in to E-Banking and Mobile Banking
On the E-Banking login page you open the QR code it shows and scan it with the Access App. You then enter your PIN, or use biometrics if you have set them up, and the browser session opens.
In the Mobile Banking app, you select Access App as the login method. After that, logins use your PIN or biometrics, so the phone does the verifying.
Approving card payments and new payees
When you pay online with a credit or prepaid card, the app sends a push notification. You confirm the payment there rather than typing a code into the shop or the bank page.
New payees added to your account also need approval. You unlock the Access App with your PIN or biometrics, check the payee details, and approve the payment. The developer says the approval steps use the highest security standards to reduce fraud risk.
PIN protection and security alerts
The Access App is protected by a PIN you choose, and biometrics can be used in place of it for unlocking. Every confirmation request goes through this unlock step.
The app also sends security messages. The listing gives examples such as a change to your security settings or to your contact details, so you are told when those change.
