What VidHub is for
VidHub is a video player and media library manager for Android. It is aimed at people whose films and TV shows are spread across several places: phone storage, cloud drives, a home NAS or a media server. It brings those sources into one browsable list and plays them from there.
Playing MKV, MP4 and ISO files with subtitles
The player opens MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, RMVB and WMV files, and it can open ISO disc images directly. A single file and a folder of movies are handled the same way, so both are browsed and played from one screen. Subtitles can be embedded in the video or loaded as separate SRT, SSA or SUB files, and they can be switched on or off.
The listing includes HD, 4K HDR and Dolby Vision playback. It states that HDR and Dolby Vision depend on the device, the display and the media file itself.
Streaming and downloading from cloud drives
VidHub connects to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox and other cloud drives. You can browse cloud files and stream videos straight from them, or download a file to the device for local playback. Movies from several cloud services can be combined in one player.
On supported cloud connections, files can be renamed or deleted from inside the app.
Watching from a NAS or Plex, Emby and Jellyfin servers
Shared folders on a network-attached storage device can be reached over SMB/CIFS or WebDAV. Videos on the network can be browsed and streamed without copying them to the phone.
VidHub also connects to Emby, Jellyfin, Plex and fnOS servers and shows their movie and TV libraries within its own screens.
Organising a movie and TV library with artwork
The collection can be displayed as a library with movie and TV artwork. Artwork and metadata come from TMDB, a community-maintained movie and TV database. Titles can be sorted by type, date, rating and other fields, so a series can be found without searching through scattered files.
