Free live TV on a phone, without a VIZIO TV

VIZIO | WatchFree+ is part of the VIZIO Mobile app, which the developer also uses to control VIZIO devices. It streams more than 300 free live channels to a mobile device, and the channels cover news, sports, movies and shows. The listing says no VIZIO TV is needed to watch them.

The listing points the app at two groups: people who want free live channels away from a television, and owners of VIZIO TVs and soundbars who want one app for both. Watching requires a free VIZIO account.

Finding channels and moving a stream to a TV

You can build favorite channel lists, and the app offers personalized recommendations based on them. The category jump feature takes you to a genre directly, which the listing presents as a faster way to find something than browsing.

If you start watching on a VIZIO TV, the listing says you can switch to the same stream on your phone and carry on from where you stopped.

Searching streaming services and controlling apps by voice

Universal search looks for a title across streaming services in one query. Smart recommendations suggest shows and movies based on your interests, and voice control launches apps and finds content without touching the screen.

VIZIOgram casts photos and videos from your phone to a VIZIO TV. The listing also warns that not every Google Cast app works with VIZIO SmartCast, and some may need extra steps before they will cast.

Adjusting soundbar audio and multi-room speakers

Soundbar control lets you change volume, bass and treble from the phone. Sound presets are set for movies, shows and music, and ClearDialog and Night Mode can be switched on for dialogue clarity and quieter late-night listening.

Multi-room playback needs extra SmartCast or Chromecast-enabled audio products, which are not included. VIZIO Crave Speakers cannot take audio from a TV or join an existing soundbar as an extra channel.
