A text-only werewolf novel set in Haven

Werewolves: Haven Rising is an interactive novel by Jeffrey Dean, published by Choice of Games LLC, running to 285,000 words. It has no graphics or sound effects. Everything reaches you as prose, and your choices decide where the story goes.

The setting is Haven, a government internment camp where werewolves live and work. You are one of fifteen pups raised there, and the plot pulls you out of the camp and toward a forbidden military base. It suits readers who enjoy branching fiction and are happy to picture the scenes themselves.

Choosing your pup's identity and training

At the start you pick your character's gender (male, female or nonbinary) and sexual orientation (gay, straight or bisexual). These choices carry through the story, including the romances.

Your training then follows one of three paths: warrior, shadow or sage. The path sets the kind of preparation your character receives before the mission begins.

Violence, rebellion and the non-lethal route

A mission to a forbidden military base goes wrong, and the story escalates from there. You can fight enemies with claws and fangs, or take a non-lethal approach.

You can rise against a war monger or join him in pursuit of werewolf supremacy. Either direction changes what the pack becomes by the end.

Uncovering the zealot and pursuing romances

A central thread asks you to uncover the true motivations of a powerful anti-werewolf zealot. Your answers to that question affect how the conflict unfolds.

The novel includes several potential romances, set against an increasingly chaotic world. Which relationships you pursue is determined by your choices as you read.
