What the WordReference.com app is for

This is the phone version of the WordReference.com website. It gives quick access to the site's dictionaries and its discussion forums from an Android device. Searches for it often use the spelling Word Reference, with a space.

The dictionaries are online, so the app needs an internet connection to work. It looks up words and short phrases. It does not translate whole sentences, so you cannot paste in a paragraph and get a rendered version back.

Looking up translations between languages

The main dictionaries pair English with 14 languages: Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Polish, Romanian, Czech, Greek, Turkish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Arabic. Each one is a bilingual lookup in both directions.

Two further pairs cover Spanish: Spanish to French and Spanish to Portuguese. These suit someone reading or writing in one of those languages who needs the equivalent in another.

Checking definitions in the same language

The app includes definition dictionaries for English, Spanish and Italian. These explain a word in the language itself rather than giving a translation, which helps when you want the meaning or usage of a word you already know in that language.

Finding verb forms with the conjugators

Four conjugators cover Spanish, French, Italian and English verbs. Use them to look up how a verb changes across its tenses and forms.

Because they are separate tools inside the app, you can go straight from a conjugation to the matching dictionary entry for the same verb.

Searching the forums for translation answers

The forums hold more than 2 million questions and answers about English and translation. Searching them is useful when a dictionary entry does not settle a question about a word's nuance, idiom or usage.

Most questions there have already been asked, so a search often turns up an existing thread before you need to post your own.
