Yandex Internetometer

What Yandex Internetometer measures

Yandex Internetometer is a speed test for a home or mobile internet connection. It measures the speed you actually get at the moment you run it, rather than the speed a plan promises on paper.

It suits anyone who wants to know whether a connection is slow, or whether it can cope with a particular task, such as a video call or a large upload.

Running a test and reading the results

A test starts with a single tap. Speed and latency appear on screen as the test runs, so you can watch the figures change instead of waiting for one final number.

When the test finishes, the result comes with a short explanation of what the numbers mean. The explanation is aimed at people who do not know what download speed, upload speed or latency refer to.

Download and upload speed for everyday tasks

Download speed controls how quickly web pages open and files arrive on your device. Upload speed controls how quickly data leaves it.

The listing gives email, uploading photos to cloud storage and video calls as examples of upload-heavy tasks. A test shows whether the upload figure is high enough for them.

Sharing a speed test result

After a test, you can copy a link to the result and send it by any route you like, such as a messaging app or email. The link lets someone else see the same figures without running the test themselves.
