What the YouGov app is for
YouGov is the phone version of the company's market research panel. It is built for people who want to give their opinions on a range of subjects and get something back for doing it. The listing describes it as a way to take part in YouGov's research from wherever you happen to be.
It suits people who are comfortable spending a few minutes at a time answering questions. The points and rewards are the reason to open it, and the surveys are how you earn them.
Answering surveys to earn points
Surveys are the core of the app. You answer questions inside the app, and each completed survey adds points to your balance. The listing does not say how many points a survey is worth or how long one takes, so that is something you would see once you are in the app.
Points are tracked in the app, so you can see what you have built up before deciding what to claim.
Claiming rewards from your points
Once you have points, the app lets you claim rewards. The listing refers to rewards in general terms and does not name specific reward types, so the choices on offer are only visible inside the app.
Claiming is the step that turns the points you have earned into something you receive, which is the main payoff the listing promises.
The optional Pulse study on device use
YouGov Pulse is a separate market research study that you can choose to join. If you do, the app analyses the applications and websites used on your device, and that analysis is what your participation in the study consists of.
The listing says the data collected in the study is used only for that study and not for anything outside it. Joining is optional, so the rest of the app works without it.
