Idol raising with a limited schedule

アイドルマスターシャイニーカラーズ is a role playing game in which you take the role of a new producer at 283 Production. Your aim is to get your idols through the W.I.N.G. competition for new idols, which the story treats as the main goal. The listing carries an 18+ rating.

Each turn you choose a lesson, a job or an audition to improve an idol's abilities and grow her fan base. Those choices play out inside a fixed period, so you have to decide which idols to focus on and when.

Building trust through talks and daily life

Conversations, which the listing calls communication, run from morning greetings to the minutes before a live. Each idol reacts differently, so the relationship you build with one does not carry over to the others.

The idols appear as 2D animated characters. The listing says the animation is soft and smooth, which suits the slower, dialogue-driven scenes the game is built around.

Four kinds of scenarios and eight units

The story is told through four scenario types. Producer scenarios follow your own role as you guide idols through their growth. Producer idol scenarios are one-on-one conversations that deepen trust. Support idol scenarios follow the everyday lives of members within a unit. Event scenarios track how the relationships inside each unit change over time.

The idols belong to eight units, and each unit has its own bond to watch develop. The listing names four groups in its cast: Illumination Stars, Antica, Houkago Climax Girls and Alstroemeria, along with Yuzuki and other members of each unit.

Live battles against players in Fes

In the Fes mode you put the idols you have raised into a formation and compete in live battles against producers from around the country. The aim, as the listing puts it, is to build your own best unit and raise your grade above other players.

Because the battles use idols you have trained yourself, the results depend on how you spent your turns earlier in the game. Formations are built from the same roster you use for lessons and auditions.
