What the app covers and who it is for
漢字検定・漢検漢字トレーニング is a kanji study app for the Japanese kanji proficiency test, known as 漢字検定 or 漢検. It is aimed at people preparing for levels 6 to 2.
The developer, StudySwitch, Inc., says the 1,494 kanji that appear across those six levels are all included. It lists 10,546 questions in total.
The app is built around practice rather than reference. Its main job is to drill the question types the exam uses, level by level.
Practising each level by question type
Each level has its own menu, split into nine genres. These are writing (書き取り), reading (読み方), radicals and radical names (部首・部首名), okurigana (送り仮名), antonyms and synonyms (対義語・類義語), homophones and homographs written with different kanji (同音・同訓異字), four-character idioms (四字熟語), correction of wrong characters (誤字訂正), and how compound words are built (熟語の構成).
A learner picks a level, then a genre. Writing and reading are the two genres the listing names first, and they cover the kanji forms the test asks for most directly.
The other genres test the same kanji from different angles, such as meaning, structure and correct usage.
Drill sets and ability tests
Practice runs in sets of five questions. This suits short sessions where a learner works through one genre and stops.
For a longer check, the app offers sets of ten questions, which the developer calls ability tests (実力テスト).
Both set sizes sit inside the same level and genre menus, so a learner can move from drilling to testing without leaving the level they are working on.
Linked kanji dictionary and trial content
The app connects to StudySwitch's kanji dictionary app. From this app, a learner can open a list of the new kanji for each level, then view details such as radicals and compound words for each character.
The listing also includes a trial version of writing and reading questions at 準一級 level, marked 試作版 (trial version).
Ads, the paid plan and developer details
The app shows ads. A paid plan called 本気で勉強プラン(広告非表示)removes them, and the listing describes it as a paid option.
StudySwitch, Inc. developed the app. The listing states that the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation did not develop it, and that the foundation holds the 漢検 trademark. The app is part of the Hanpuku study series from Gakko Net.
Bug reports go to StudySwitch. A user taps the gear icon at the top left of the screen, then 「お問い合わせ」.
