What AppLock is for
AppLock is an app locker for Android. It puts a lock in front of apps you choose, so someone who picks up your phone cannot open them without the right unlock. The listing gives gallery, messaging, social and email apps as examples.
The listing also says the app can hide photos and videos. It suits anyone who wants to keep specific apps or private files away from other people using the same phone.
Locking apps with PIN, pattern or fingerprint
You pick the apps to lock, and each one is protected by a PIN, a pattern, a fingerprint, or a combination of these. Fingerprint can be a second check after a PIN or pattern, or the only way to unlock an app.
Custom settings let a specific app use its own PIN or pattern, separate from the one used for other apps. A photo gallery and a messaging app can therefore have different codes.
Hiding that an app is locked
A crash screen can be set for a locked app. When someone opens it, they see what looks like an error message instead of a lock prompt, so they may not realise the app is protected at all.
AppLock can also lock the recent apps page. That stops someone from browsing your recently used apps and seeing their contents through the task switcher.
Catching someone who tries the wrong password
If someone enters a wrong password on a locked app, AppLock takes a photo with the front camera. The photo is stored, and it appears when you open AppLock yourself, so you can see who tried to get in.
The capture depends on the front camera and on the wrong attempt, and the listing describes it only as a photo of the intruder.
Lock engines and turning the lock off
AppLock includes two locking engines. The default engine is the one the listing calls fast. The Improved Lock Engine is described as more battery efficient and as offering more features.
To stop locking, you turn AppLock off from its settings in the Android app settings. Turning it off removes the protection from every app it covers.
