What the Brother print plugin does on Android

This is a print service plugin, not a separate app you open to print. Once it is enabled, Brother printers on your Wi-Fi network appear as a destination in the system Print dialog of supported apps.

It is aimed at people who print from an Android phone or tablet to a Brother printer on the same network, without connecting by cable.

Printing from Gmail, Chrome, Photos and Google Docs

The developer lists Chrome, Gmail, Photos, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Docs and Google Drive as supported apps. In each one, you use the app's own Print option and pick the Brother printer from the list.

Because it works through the standard Print option, you can print a web page, an email, a photo or a Google Docs file without leaving the app you are in.

Print settings you can change before sending

Before printing, you can set the number of copies, paper size, Color/Mono, orientation, media type, print quality, layout, 2-sided printing and borderless printing. The developer says which options appear depends on the printer you select.

Layout and 2-sided settings cover multi-page documents, and borderless printing covers full-bleed output such as photos. Not every printer offers every option.

Turning on the plugin and finding supported printers

After installing, you turn the plugin on in one of two ways. You can tap the icon that appears in the notification area right after installation, or go to Settings, then Printing, and select Brother Print Service Plugin.

The developer asks users to check their local Brother website for the list of supported models. Feedback goes to an email address given on the listing.
