What CapCut is and who it is built for
CapCut is a video editor that works on the clips you already shoot and turns them into finished posts. The developer pitches it at two kinds of people: someone who wants to cut a clip in a few seconds, and someone who needs fine control over motion, color and timing. The same tools serve both, with the simpler ones sitting on the surface.
The listing names TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook as the places where finished videos are meant to go. Most of the editing tools described are aimed at short social videos, though the listing does not limit them to that. The developer says beginners can start working in seconds, while advanced users have the full set of editing functions.
Trimming, speed and motion in a clip
The basic tools cover the routine work. You can trim a clip, split it, or merge several into one. Speed can be set anywhere from 0.1x to 100x, and speed curves let the rate change across a single clip rather than staying flat. Freeze frame holds one moment still, which is useful for pausing on a key expression or a product shot.
Zoom in and zoom out effects animate a clip's framing over time. Transitions sit on and between clips, and the listing describes a range of them. For more controlled movement, keyframe animation can be applied to every setting, so a value like position or scale can change at points you choose.
Slow motion gets its own treatment. The optical flow feature builds smoother slow-motion than a plain frame repeat, and it works together with the speed curve tool. Used side by side, the two let you slow a moment down and then speed it back up without a jump.
Layering clips and cleaning up footage
A multi-track timeline holds several video and audio tracks at once. The listing says clips on it are easy to arrange and preview, which matters once a project has overlays, cutaways and separate sound running together.
Chroma key removes a chosen color from a clip, so a green or blue backdrop can be replaced with another image or video. The stabilizing feature keeps shaky handheld footage steady. Background removal is a separate automatic tool that takes the background out of a subject without a green screen.
Captions, voiceover and on-screen text
Auto captions use speech recognition to transcribe what is said in a video and place subtitles on screen. Text-to-speech generates spoken narration from typed text, in several languages and with more than one voice. Between the two, a clip can be captioned and narrated without recording a voice track.
Text can be set in different fonts and styles, and the listing offers text templates for quick starting points. Fonts can be imported from the device, so a brand typeface can be used. Subtitles live on the timeline as their own track, and the listing says they can be moved and adjusted in one step.
Effects, filters, music and exporting
The effects library includes hundreds of effects, among them Glitch, Blur and 3D styles. Filters are updated weekly to follow current trends, and there are movie-style looks. Brightness and contrast can be adjusted by hand when a filter is not quite right.
The music library is described as holding millions of music clips and sound effects. Audio can also be pulled out of a video, or out of separate clips and recordings, and used as its own track. That lets a sound from one clip carry over into another project.
Export settings let you choose the resolution, with 4K at 60fps and smart HDR listed among the options. The output format can be adjusted before sharing, and the listing says files can go straight to the social platforms it names.
