What this Checkers game is and who it suits

This is a phone version of Checkers, the two-player board game also known as Draughts. One side plays dark pieces and the other plays light pieces, and the two take turns moving them.

It suits people who want the classic board game on the go, whether they are playing a friend in person or practising alone against the computer.

Playing a friend on one device or the computer

You can play a second person who is sitting next to you on the same device. You can also play against the phone itself, with the computer taking the other side.

Both options use the same board and rules, so the switch between them is a matter of who is opposite you.

Board sizes and the basic rules of play

Games can be played on a 6x6, 8x8 or 10x10 board. Pieces move diagonally from one square to the next.

A player captures by jumping over an opponent's piece, which removes it from the board. By default a capture is compulsory when one is available. The aim is to take every piece the opponent has.

Custom rules across different board games

The game includes a set of options for building your own rules, which the listing says can be used across different board games. The compulsory-capture rule can be switched off through these settings.

Changing the rules lets two players agree on a variation before starting, instead of playing one fixed set.

Computer opponent and difficulty levels

The built-in artificial intelligence has a very easy mode for beginners. It also has harder and more challenging modes, and the listing names a most difficult level.

A player who wants a warm-up can start on the easy setting and move up as they win more games.
