Chess Online & Offline

What the chess app is for

Chess Online & Offline is a chess game for Android. It covers two situations: a game against a real opponent somewhere else in the world, and a game against the computer when you want to practise alone.

The developer, Splend Apps, lists it under the Board category and pitches it at both new players and strong ones. The Play listing has about 4.76 stars from 486,669 ratings.

Playing rated online games against worldwide opponents

The online mode matches you with players from around the world. Results in these games count toward rating points, so your standing changes with each game you win or lose.

Because the rating depends on online results, it only reflects games played in this mode. Offline games do not move it.

Practising offline against the computer

The offline mode pits you against the computer with no connection needed for the game itself. The listing says these games give no rating points, so you can try openings or learn moves without affecting your online standing.

Use this mode for practice before going online, or whenever you want a game without another person on the other end.

Background music and the playing screen

Classical music plays behind the board during games. The developer describes the look of the app as modern and friendly, with the emphasis on a calm playing setting.
