What Concepts is for
Concepts is a drawing app for working out ideas before they are finished. The developer lists sketching plans, whiteboarding, making notes and mindmaps, and drawing storyboards, product sketches and design layouts as its main uses.
Because every mark is stored as a vector, a sketch stays editable after it is drawn. That suits people who revise designs repeatedly and then share the result with clients or other apps.
Vector sketching with pressure-sensitive brushes
Pencils, pens and brushes respond to pressure, tilt and velocity, and the developer says smoothing can be adjusted live while drawing. The listing says the app is tuned for pen-enabled devices.
The Nudge, Slice and Select tools change part of a sketch without redrawing it. You can also go back and change a stroke's tool, colour, size, smoothing or scale later.
Canvas, grids, layers and colour
The canvas is infinite, with a choice of paper types and custom grids. A tool wheel or bar can be set up with your own favourite tools and presets, and gestures can be remapped.
Layers sort automatically and have adjustable opacity. The free tier includes five layers, while the Essentials purchase or a subscription unlocks unlimited layers. Colour is picked with HSL and RGB wheels, plus the full COPIC colour spectrum, which is listed as part of the free features.
Precision drawing with guides and reference images
Shape guides, live snapping and on-canvas measurement help keep lines straight and proportions accurate. Custom grids and the Essentials purchase add to these tools.
You can drag an image straight onto the canvas to use as a reference or to trace over. Duplicating a drawing gives you a starting point for another version of the same idea.
Exporting for printing and feedback
The free tier exports JPG images. The listing says PDFs and vector files can be exported for printing or for sending to friends and clients, and that PNG, PSD, SVG and DXF exports come with the Essentials purchase.
The developer lists a subscription that unlocks every library, service and feature. The Essentials purchase is a one-time payment limited to the platform it is bought on, and professional brushes are sold separately.
What's new
We’ve squashed crashes and errors around sign-in, purchases, folders, and object creation to keep your workflow seamless. The Object Library gets a bit more polish with clearer copy, revamped mini stores, and an improved post-purchase experience. We also now support Android's per-app language settings.
