What Cross-a-Pix asks you to solve

Each Cross-a-Pix puzzle starts as a blank grid divided into regions. Clues sit to the left of every row and above every column, and they tell you how many squares to paint or how many blocks to fill in that line. Working out the rules from those clues is the whole game.

Every correct solve uncovers a picture drawn in pixel art. The puzzle works as a deduction exercise and as an image reveal at the same time, so it suits people who enjoy logic problems that end with something to look at.

Zooming and moving around large grids

You can zoom the entire puzzle, or only the grid area while the clue panes stay fixed in place. That keeps the clues readable when you are working on a detailed grid.

For big puzzles, the app offers a fingertip cursor built for placing marks with more precision than a standard pointer would allow on a touchscreen.

Rulers for working one line at a time

A show or hide rulers option lets you bring up guide lines so you can concentrate on a single row and column. Turning them off clears the grid for a plainer view.

The rulers are useful when a line of clues depends on the squares crossing it, since you can check one row and one column against each other without scanning the whole board.

Tracking progress across a puzzle collection

The puzzle list shows a graphic preview for each puzzle in a volume, so you can see how far each picture has got while you are still solving it. A Gallery view displays those same previews larger, which suits browsing a set of finished or in-progress pictures.
