What Drive Smarter is for

Drive Smarter is a companion app for select Cobra and Escort dash cams. It runs on your phone and works alongside the camera mounted in your car, so the footage the camera records can be reached from the phone.

The listing says it is also available on Android Auto. It is aimed at drivers who already own one of the supported Cobra or Escort cameras.

Setting up a dash cam in your vehicle

Setup works through your account. You add a virtual vehicle to the account, then add compatible Cobra and Escort devices to that vehicle. The listing describes this as a streamlined process that connects the camera and places it on the app's dashboard.

Because the camera is tied to a vehicle entry, the recordings and settings for each car stay grouped in one place.

Reviewing and saving SD card recordings

The app reads the recordings stored on the camera's SD card and lists them on a timeline. Events the listing describes as important, such as possible collisions or impacts, are highlighted within that timeline, so you can find them without scrolling through every clip.

Select the files you want, download them to your phone, and trim the video. You can then share the clip with contacts through any messaging app already on the phone.

Cloud upload and insurance claim reports

Users who have a mobile WiFi hotspot can optionally connect the camera directly to the Drive Smarter cloud. The listing says this allows videos to upload as they are recorded and lets the camera send time-sensitive data and event information.

The app also generates reports intended for insurance claims processing, based on the recorded footage and event data.
