The story and who it suits

Detective Ren Larsen takes on a request from Carissa to bring Bastian back from the afterlife. Bastian has been taken by shadows to another world, and he turns into a shadow permanently if he is not returned in time. The only leads at the start are a cabin of unknown location and a place called Penumbra.

This is the seventh game in the Hidden Town series of escape room mysteries. Each game can be played on its own, and this episode links to the stories of Haunted Laia and Another Shadow. It is rated 12+, and it suits players who like horror-tinged detective stories built around puzzles and riddles.

Solving puzzles with objects and inventory

You interact with the scene by touching objects and characters. Hidden objects have to be found by searching the environment, and items you collect go into an inventory. Combining two inventory items, or using one on a specific object in the scene, creates a new tool that moves the story forward.

Riddles and logic puzzles appear throughout, and the listing describes them as challenging. Solving them is what unlocks the next area.

Moving between the real world and the shadow world

The puzzles are spread across different areas of the real world and the shadow world. As the detective looks for the missing characters, the story moves between both places. Characters from earlier games are among those who need rescuing.

The game also hides nine shadows in the scenes. The listing says they can appear in unexpected places, so finding all of them is an optional challenge on top of the main story. The soundtrack and artwork are part of how the story is presented.
