What File Manager is for
File Manager is a file explorer for Android phones, tablets and Android TV. It works on the internal storage, SD cards and USB OTG drives in the device, and it also opens cloud accounts and network shares.
It suits people who move files between a phone, a computer and a home NAS, or who keep files in more than one cloud service and want them in one place.
Managing files on internal storage, SD cards and USB drives
Main storage, SD cards and USB OTG drives can all be managed from the same screen. The listed actions are open, search, navigate folders, copy and paste, cut, delete, rename, bookmark, organize, transfer and download. These work on media files and APK files too.
When the app opens, the home screen shows how many files and apps are on the device.
Connecting to cloud drives, NAS and FTP servers
Cloud storage listed for the app is Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box and Yandex. Remote and shared storage covers NAS devices and FTP servers.
The app can also run an FTP server on the Android device, so a PC can read the phone's storage over FTP.
Sorting files by type and finding space hogs
Downloads, New files, Images, Audio, Videos and Documents each appear as a sorted view, with files grouped by type and characteristics. The listing says this is meant to make specific files easier to find.
A storage analysis tool scans local storage and shows which files and apps take up the most space, for cleaning up unneeded files. Built-in image viewer, music player and text editor are included, which the listing says are for faster performance than separate apps.
Compressing archives and managing installed apps
Files can be compressed into zip archives. Archives in zip, gz, xz and tar format can be decompressed.
A separate Apps section lists every application installed on the device, with options to manage them.
