What the Go Fly drone app is for

Go Fly is a companion app for flying a drone from a phone. The developer says it supports a range of drone models, though the listing does not name them in the description.

Most of the app is about the camera: planning a route, framing a shot and getting the footage off the phone. Smart flight modes are included alongside the route and camera tools.

Planning waypoint flight routes

The waypoint mission tool lets you lay out a flight path ahead of time, so the drone follows a set route rather than being flown by hand. The developer pitches it at both new pilots and experienced ones.

Smart flight modes are a separate set of automated options, listed next to the waypoint tool.

Shooting panoramas and controlling the camera

Panorama capture records 360-degree shots both horizontally and vertically, so one flight can cover a full view around a point.

Focus mode gives direct control of the drone's yaw axis and the gimbal, which lets you keep a subject in frame while the drone moves. Gimbal direction can be adjusted separately, and the camera view is shown across a wide display area.

Reading exposure and exporting photos and video

An on-screen exposure graph shows the exposure values while you fly, so you can see how the camera is metering the scene without leaving the controller screen.

The listing says photos and video can be exported to an iPhone. Footage is therefore moved off the drone and onto that device rather than kept only on the app.

Learning to fly with the built-in tutorials

The app includes flight tutorials aimed at beginners, covering the basics before the waypoint and focus tools are used.

The tutorials sit inside the same app as the flight controls, so a new pilot can learn the controls and then move on to missions and panoramas without switching tools.
