Play ProtectJaé has arrived to transform mobility in the city of Rio de Janeiro!
Senior reviews editor
Jaé is a fare payment app for public transport in Rio de Janeiro, as its listing summary states. It takes the place of a plastic transit card: you show a QR code from your phone at the validator to pay.
The developer, Billing Pay Integração de Sistemas, describes it as a way to pay fares and follow your spending without carrying a card. Commuters who use Vale-Transporte, the Brazilian employer transport benefit, are one of the groups it is built for.
To pay, you generate a QR code in the app and present it to the validator, so no physical card is needed at the gate. Balance is loaded through PIX, Brazil's instant payment system, and the listing says the credit can be used right after the transfer, with no validation step or wait.
Credit stays on the account until it is used, and the listing says it has no expiry date. The app shows your balance and a statement of your trips, both updated as you go.
Within one login you can hold a personal account and a Vale-Transporte account. Each has its own balance and its own statement, so the two are never mixed.
When you pay, you pick which account to charge. This suits people who receive transport benefits from an employer and also pay some fares from their own money.
The app handles the card itself. You can request a card, block it if it is lost, or ask for a second copy, all without going to a counter.
These actions are listed as in-app features, so they are available from the same screen as your balance and statement.
The listing names several accessibility features: navigation in Libras, the Brazilian sign language, an inverted contrast mode, and text read aloud. It mentions other accessibility tools without naming them.
These are aimed at users with visual or hearing needs who would otherwise find a standard payment screen hard to use.
The build we hold is Jaé 2.3.031 (APKS split bundle) for Android 7.0 and up.
