What Kids Messenger is for
Kids Messenger is a chat and calling app for children, built around a small circle of friends and family. It is published by Xooloo SAS, sits in the Communication category and carries a PEGI 3 rating. Signing up needs no SIM card or phone number, according to the listing.
The app combines calling, text messaging, an avatar system and a friend list that only accepts invitations from people a child can identify by number, email or friend code. It suits children who want to keep in touch with people they already know, and parents who want to see who those people are.
Voice and video calls between children
Audio and video calls between friends are free, and the listing states there is no subscription or in-app purchase. Video group calls take up to six friends at once, and audio group calls take up to twelve.
Because calls are the main thing the listing emphasises, a child can talk to several friends together without leaving the app. No additional account or device beyond the app itself is mentioned.
Texting with a Xavatar and animated sends
Each user builds a personal Xavatar, a character that stands in for them in the app. The avatar can be changed whenever a child wants, and friends can see how each other look through it.
Text messages go to friends or family from within the app. A child can also send a short animation to a friend's Xavatar, such as a kiss, a burst of confetti or a custard pie.
Friend invites, birthdays and parental access
A child can only be invited by someone who knows their mobile number, email address or Xooloo Friend code. The listing presents this as the main protection on who can make contact.
The app sends an alert when a friend's birthday arrives, and the listing says the friend gets a surprise on the child's own birthday. For children under 13, parental consent is required. Parents can see their child's contacts, but they cannot see chats or read messages.
