What the Chinesimple HSK 5 course covers
Learn Chinese Chinesimple HSK5 is a course for people who already have some Mandarin and want to reach HSK 5 level. According to the listing, the lessons focus on describing events in Chinese: what happened, when it happened and how long it took.
Each lesson uses short Chinese sentences with English explanations. The explanations show which part of a sentence gives the time, which gives the length of an event, and which word changes the meaning of the whole sentence.
The course is set out as modules, so a learner works through it in order rather than picking single words at random.
Comparing sentences about duration and timing
One example in the listing uses 超过 (chāoguò), meaning to exceed or go beyond, in a sentence about an interview that ran fifteen minutes over its allotted time. The English note explains that the fifteen minutes show the extra time, not the total length.
A second example uses 才 in a sentence about a match that did not finish until dusk. The listing says 才 signals that the speaker sees the finish as later than expected, which an English sentence saying the match ended at dusk does not show.
The lessons then ask the learner to put the difference between the two English versions into their own words.
Listening for the detail that changes meaning
The listening exercises play a native speaker reading a sentence without showing the text. The learner is asked to decide whether a figure such as 十五分钟 (fifteen minutes) refers to the whole event or only the extra time, and to pick out words such as 规定时间, the time set aside for the event.
If a word is unclear, the learner can look it up in the Chinese dictionary. The entry includes pronunciation audio, pinyin as a guide and an example sentence. The listing then has the learner hear the full sentence again and explain it in their own words.
These steps keep the focus on the sentence as a whole rather than on single vocabulary items.
Changing one word and retelling the sentence
A substitution drill replaces 十五分钟 with 五分钟 in the interview sentence, so the learner says the altered version aloud and notes how the meaning shifts.
The listing then asks the learner to describe a different situation, such as a meeting that ran longer than planned, in Chinese. The exercise moves from recognising a sentence to producing one.
Flashcards, spaced repetition and character writing
Words the learner cannot recall while speaking can be added to a personal flashcard deck. The listing says spaced repetition brings each card back at intervals, so words are revisited over time.
For characters that are hard to tell apart, the app shows stroke order for one character. The learner writes it by hand and then finds it again in a sentence.
The deck and the dictionary are part of the same app, so a word looked up during a lesson can be saved for review.
Picking up the course and tracking progress
The home screen offers the next course module or a short revision session. According to the listing, daily practice suggests what to work on next.
The app records progress through the course and counts how many days in a row the learner has studied.
Practising for the HSK 5 exam
For learners planning to sit the HSK 5 exam, the app provides vocabulary, sentences and exercises from that level. The listing directs the learner back to the interview and match examples as a way of checking they can state which sentence shows duration and which shows the end time.
The listing presents the whole process, from lessons through listening, dictionary use, flashcards and exam practice, as something that can all be done in one app.
