What Mobile Assistant is for

Mobile Assistant is a data transfer tool for people switching to a new Motorola phone. It moves personal data directly from an older phone, made by Motorola, Lenovo or Samsung, so you don't have to set up each item again by hand.

The transfer covers data stored on the phone itself: local photos, videos, music, call logs, SMS messages and contacts. Both phones need to be on the same Wi-Fi network for the copy to run.

Choosing which phone data to copy

Before the transfer starts, you pick the kinds of data to send. You can select photos, videos, music, call logs, texts and contacts individually, so a move can be limited to just the contacts and photos, for example.

The app works only with data kept on the phone. Anything saved to a cloud service is outside the transfer, so files you keep online need to be restored from that service separately.

Connecting an old and new phone over Wi-Fi

Open Data Transfer on the new phone and choose the receive option. On the old phone, open Data Transfer again, choose send, and select which manufacturer made it.

The new phone searches the network for the old one. When the old phone's icon appears on screen, tap it to start the connection, and the selected data then moves across. Both phones need the Mobile Assistant app installed and must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
