What the Motorola Indigenous Keyboard is for
This is an Android keyboard from Motorola Mobility for typing in Kuvi, an Indigenous language spoken mostly in India, and Zapotec, spoken mostly in Mexico. Both are listed by the developer as endangered. It suits people who speak or write these languages and need a keyboard that includes their characters, which the standard layouts usually do not.
The keyboard covers Kuvi in four scripts and Zapotec in six regional layouts. Each one places the language's own characters on the keys.
Kuvi scripts: Devanagari, Telugu, Odia and Latin
For Kuvi, the keyboard offers four scripts: Devanagari, Telugu, Odia and Latin. Each script has its own set of language characters on the keys, so a writer can pick the script they use for a given document or message.
The listing does not describe any other Kuvi options beyond these four scripts.
Zapotec layouts for six Zapotec varieties
The Zapotec side has six layouts, one for each variety the developer names: Teotitlán del Valle, San Miguel del Valle, San Bartolomé Quialana, Santa Inés Yatzeche, San Pablo Guilá and San Pedro Mixtepec. Choosing the layout that matches a writer's home community puts the characters of that variety on the keys.
Each layout is a separate mode, so a person who writes in more than one variety can switch between them.
Switching languages and turning the keyboard on
After installing, the keyboard has to be enabled in the On-screen keyboard menu in Settings before it appears when typing. Once it is on, the globe key moves between the language modes.
This means a single keyboard can hold Kuvi and Zapotec input side by side, with the globe key used to change which one is active.
