A BMW motorcycle diagnostic app for OBD adapters
MotoScan for BMW Motorcycles is a diagnostic tool for most current BMW motorcycles. It connects to the bike through a plug-in diagnostic adapter, and the listing names three: the OBDLink LX or MX, the UniCarScan UCSI-2000, and the ELM327.
The developer says the functions on a given bike depend on its model and equipment, and that each control unit exposes a different range of data. The feature list grows with each update.
Reading fault codes and live sensor data
The app identifies each control unit on the bike and reads its trouble codes, which it can also clear. Freeze frame data, the sensor snapshot stored when a fault was logged, can be read as well.
Real-time data covers sensor parameters and input and output signals, so the values can be watched while the bike is running or while a test is carried out.
Service resets, actuator tests and ECU coding
Service interval reset clears the maintenance counter once work has been done. Actuator control drives individual components on the bike for testing.
ECU coding and the reading and resetting of adaptations are also listed. The developer notes that most service functions are not available in the Lite version, and that the full version is purchased inside the app.
Adapters and the Lite version
The ELM327 is listed as supported with restrictions, while the OBDLink LX or MX and the UniCarScan UCSI-2000 are named without that caveat.
The developer suggests trying the Lite version first to confirm which functions work on a specific bike. In Lite, data is shown in a much more limited form, and most service functions cannot be run.
