What Music Recognition is for
Music Recognition is a song finder. You let it listen to music around you, or give it a link or a video, and it returns the title and artist. It also works as a small music discovery and playlist app, so people who identify songs often end up browsing charts and saving tracks.
The listing describes it as suited to anyone who keeps hearing a song they cannot name, whether that is in a shop, a video or a friend's humming.
Identifying a song by sound, humming or a video
You can hum or sing a tune, or hold the phone up to a playing sound, and the app matches it against a catalogue. The listing says recognition runs on ACRCloud.
A pop-up recognizer can identify music playing inside other apps such as Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, without you leaving them. You can also paste a link to a song, or pick a video stored on your phone and have the app pull out the song's name.
Listening to a match and watching its video
After a match you can play a short preview to check it is the right track. From there you can open the full song on Spotify or YouTube. Music videos for the track can be watched inside the app as well.
Finding new music and building playlists
Charts show what is popular in a chosen country or city. The app also suggests songs and playlists, and lists new albums and playlists to browse.
In My Playlist you can create a playlist from suggested songs, or invite other music fans to add to it. Personalized playlists and mixes are built around the genres you listen to, and a search box finds specific songs.
Keeping a history of identified songs
Every song the app identifies is saved to a history, so earlier matches stay available after you have moved on. The Music Map plots where you heard each song, showing the places tied to each identification.
