What the app covers and who it suits

Musicolet Music Player works only with audio files already saved on the device's internal storage or an SD card. It cannot stream, download or search for music online. The listing names mp3, m4a, wma, flac, opus, aac, alac, ape and dsf, along with other formats.

It suits people who keep a local music collection and want to manage it closely, by folder, album or playlist. Someone who relies on streaming services would have no use for it.

Playing music and resuming queues

Each folder, album, artist and playlist gets its own queue, and each queue picks up from where it stopped. The main player, queues, folders, albums, artists and playlists sit in one row of tabs, so moving between them takes a single tap. The listing also describes gapless playback.

Earphone controls work through the headset buttons. One press pauses or plays, two presses skip forward, and three presses go back. Pressing four or more times fast-forwards the current song.

Browsing folders and editing files

Folders can be shown in two layouts: a linear view that lists every folder at once, or a hierarchical view that nests folders inside folders. Songs can be moved or copied, and folders renamed, from inside the app.

The tag editor changes tags and album art for several songs in one pass. Bookmarks and notes can be saved against tracks. A song can be added to or removed from more than one playlist from the notification, a widget or the lock screen.

Lyrics, equalizer and sleep timer

Lyrics can be read from tags embedded in the audio file as ID3 data, and they can be edited in the tag editor. The app also plays LRC files for synced lyrics. It does not fetch lyrics or LRC files from the internet. An LRC file has to be placed in the same folder as the song and named to match it exactly.

The equalizer keeps separate presets and settings for speakers, headphones and Bluetooth output. The sleep timer stops playback either at a set clock time or after a chosen number of songs.

Home screen, car, themes and backups

Albums, artists, folders and playlists can be pinned to the home screen as shortcuts. Widgets, the lock screen (with controls, queue and lyrics) and the notification panel can all be used for playback. Notifications can also show fast-forward and rewind buttons, set in the settings.

With Android Auto, a car's screen gives access to playlists, queues, folders and the full library. Backups can run automatically or by hand, and restoring one brings back settings, playlists and play counts on any device. The listing says the app carries no ads and offers light and dark themes.
