Changing temperature and reading energy use

With a Nest thermostat, the temperature can be changed from wherever the phone is, such as on a train or on the sofa. The schedule can be viewed and edited in the app. Energy use is shown along with the reasons behind it, so a household can see when and why power was used.

Extreme temperature alerts warn you before the house gets too cold.

Arming the Nest Secure alarm and reading alerts

The Nest Secure system can be armed and disarmed from the app, without being at the keypad. If you leave and forget to set the alarm, a Remind Me alert is sent to your phone.

When the alarm is triggered, the security alert says what set it off: a door or window opening, or someone entering a room.

Viewing Nest Cam and Nest Protect alerts

Nest Cam lets you see your home through the app. Nest Protect sends an alert to your phone if its alarm goes off, so you do not have to be in the building to know.

Automatic changes when you leave home

The app uses sensors, algorithms and the location of your phone to make changes without being asked. When you leave, it turns off the heating and turns on the camera. If the alarm was not set, the Remind Me alert covers that case too.

These changes run on the devices themselves, so the phone's location is the only trigger the listing mentions for leaving.
