What the app does with an OBD2 adapter

OBD2 Scanner: Torque & FixD reads the diagnostic data a car's engine computer makes available, and shows it on an Android phone through a plug-in OBD2 adapter. The developer aims it at home mechanics, professional technicians and ordinary drivers. Its core job is pulling fault codes and watching sensors while the engine runs.

The phone does not replace the adapter. The adapter sits in the car's diagnostic port and passes data to the app, so the connection and the app work together.

Reading fault codes and clearing the check engine light

The app reads trouble codes (DTCs) and attaches a detailed explanation to each one, so the code can be read as a description rather than only a number. It can also clear the check engine light (CEL) from the phone.

Both actions run through the connected adapter, so the car has to be linked before a scan or a clear can start.

Live sensor monitoring, dashboards and HUD view

Real-time monitoring covers RPM, temperature, fuel, throttle position, turbo and other sensors. Readings update while the engine is running.

Custom dashboards let you choose which readings appear together. A HUD display mode shows live metrics as a separate view.

Emissions readiness and freeze frame analysis

The emissions readiness check reports the status of the car's emissions monitors. Freeze frame analysis looks at the snapshot of sensor values recorded when a fault was stored.

The developer lists support for FixD, ELM327 over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, Carista, Micro Mechanic, RepairSolutions2, FastLink, Advance Auto Parts tools and Torque Pro and other compatible scanners. Which of these works with a given car depends on the adapter hardware you own.
