What the M3U and M3U8 player does
IPTV Player - Smart Live TV is a media player for M3U and M3U8 files, the plain-text lists that point to live TV streams. It opens those lists and plays the channels they contain.
The app ships with no playlists and no channels. The listing says it only displays and plays what the user adds, and that it is not affiliated with any third-party provider.
Loading your own playlist
The listing says users import their own content, and the M3U and M3U8 formats are the ones it names. Its store summary also refers to Xtream live playlists.
The developer states it does not support or promote streaming copyrighted material without permission from the rights holders. Whatever streams a playlist contains are supplied by whoever provided that playlist.
Live sports, news and movie channels
The store summary describes the content as live playlists and channels covering sports, news, movies and more. The app itself does not supply any of these; they come from the playlist the user brings.
Because the player only plays what is loaded into it, the channel lineup is whatever the user's own playlist provides.
Who the player is built for
The app suits someone who already has an M3U, M3U8 or Xtream-style playlist and wants a player for it on an Android device. It is not a source of channels in its own right.
The listing presents it as a way to watch online TV channels from a playlist anywhere, and it is rated for ages 3 and up on Google Play.
