What Panasonic Image App is for

Panasonic Image App is a companion app for Panasonic digital cameras and digital video cameras that have Wi-Fi. It runs on your phone and connects to the camera over that Wi-Fi link, so the phone can stand in for the camera's control side. Owners who want to shoot from a distance, review what they recorded, or pass pictures and clips to social networking sites will find the app's functions line up with those tasks.

The app has two main jobs. One is controlling the camera while it shoots. The other is working with the files the camera has already recorded.

Shooting remotely with live view

The app shows the same picture that appears on the camera's Live View screen, so you can frame a shot from your phone. From the same screen you can operate the camera's shooting functions, which the developer describes as working like a wireless remote controller.

This suits setups where the camera is mounted, placed on a tripod, or held somewhere you cannot reach easily. The picture you see on the phone is the camera's live feed, not a separate preview.

Viewing and copying recordings from the camera

Still pictures and videos stored on the camera can be played back on the phone. The app covers both photo and video files recorded by the camera.

You can also copy these files to the phone. Once they are on the phone, they are available for sharing or for any other use you have for them.

Uploading shots to social networking sites

Copied photos and videos can be uploaded from the phone to SNS sites, the abbreviation the listing uses for social networking services. The upload step happens after the file has been copied to the phone, so the camera is only needed for the transfer, not for the upload itself.
