What this pixel tycoon game is
Pickaxe King Island is a simulation game with pixel graphics. You play a character who chops trees, runs a farm and works toward building up a kingdom across a set of islands. The developer describes it as a healing game, meaning the pace is slow and there is no pressure to hurry.
The game suits players who like tycoon-style growth, collecting and light management. Competition is not required: the developer says a ranking battle exists but can be skipped.
Chopping, selling and expanding the farm
Chopping trees gives wood, which you sell for gold coins. Coins pay for more farm space and for chickens, which lay eggs that produce further income.
Crops and farm animals such as cows add to what you can sell. Selling farm goods pays for new islands, which is how the kingdom grows beyond the first one.
Cooking dishes from farm ingredients
A cooking oven turns farm ingredients into food. Milk becomes cheese, wheat becomes bread, and mixing different ingredients unlocks new recipes.
Dishes made from recipes sell for more than their raw ingredients, so cooking is a second way to earn coins beyond selling raw goods.
Mining ores, dungeon runs and pickaxe upgrades
The mine has hundreds of floors. Deeper floors hold rarer and more valuable ores, and the ores you collect pay for pickaxe upgrades and equipment. The developer says an upgraded pickaxe can break the hardest rocks in one hit.
Hidden dungeons appear as the kingdom grows. In them, the Fox Knight explores and collects magical resources and dungeon-only rewards, and fights monsters such as orcs, minotaurs and slimes. Training the Fox Knight and upgrading its gear lets it tackle deeper dungeons.
Item cards, costumes and the ranking battle
The game has over 30 item cards. Equipping the Doggy King card lets you ride it around the kingdom faster, and the Miner's Gloves card speeds up your pickaxe.
Over 100 costumes change how the Pickaxe King looks. Buying the last island opens new content, which the developer says includes an optional ranking battle against other players.
