What Pixel Search is for
Pixel Search is a search box that sits over the rest of your phone. Instead of opening the app drawer, your contacts list or a file manager to find something, you type once and the results come from all of them together. The listing names app lookup, contact numbers and recently downloaded files as the main cases.
It is aimed at people who regularly hunt for one app, one number or one download and would rather not move through several screens to get it. The listing describes it as simple enough for anyone to use, but that is the developer's claim and nothing here has tested it.
Finding apps, contacts and files
A single query searches installed apps, app shortcuts, contacts and files. Web suggestions are also pulled in, which means the internet connection is used for those suggestions and for nothing else the listing mentions.
Contacts can be opened from the results, and a phone call can be placed to a contact from there, but only when you ask for it. The listing describes the contact and calling features as optional.
Custom shortcuts and search engines
The shortcut maker lets you add your own app shortcuts and manage the ones you have made, so frequently used actions can be reached from the search box. Shortcuts are a feature of the app's own list, not a separate launcher.
Pixel Search also supports custom search engines you have installed on the phone. The listing does not say how many engines can be added or how they are chosen, only that installed ones are supported.
Icon themes, widget and dark mode
Icon pack theming changes how app icons appear inside the search results, and the listing names a Material You widget that goes on the home screen. The light and dark themes switch the look of the search screen between the two modes.
These are appearance settings. The listing describes them briefly and gives no detail on which icon packs work or how the widget is laid out.
What's new
• General bug fixes and stability improvements.
• Fading edge effect for search result.
• Compact search engines style (default; can be changed from settings).
• Calendar Events search added (enable from app settings > search results > calendar events).
