What the game is and who it suits
Zombies walk toward your house across the lawn, and you stop them by placing plants in their path. The listing describes it as a port of an original PC downloadable game. It suits players who like working out a plan and spending a limited supply of resources on it.
Each round is a fight to hold the line with what you can afford to plant at the time. Placement and timing decide how long a wave takes to break through.
Adventure and Survival modes
Adventure mode has 50 levels, set at different times and places: day, night, fog, a swimming pool and the rooftop. The listing describes the set as a progression through these stages.
Survival mode is separate. It sends a continual wave of zombies, and the goal is to last as long as you can.
Plant choices, sun supply and the Almanac
The game offers 49 plants, including Peashooters, Wall-nuts and Cherry bombs. You have a limited supply of greens and seeds, so each planting is a choice about what to spend. The listing says you earn more of these plants, called perennials, as you progress.
The Almanac holds information on every zombie and plant. You can open it to plan which plants to use against which zombies.
Zombie types and how they attack
There are 26 zombie types, and the listing says each has its own special skills. Pole-vaulters, snorkelers and bucketheads are named examples. Some jump, run, dance or swim, and some eat plants to get into the house.
Because the types behave differently, the same plant can work well against one and poorly against another. The Almanac is where the abilities are listed.
Coins, power-ups, achievements and in-app purchases
Coins you collect can buy a pet snail, power-ups and other items. The game lists 46 achievements to earn.
The game includes optional in-app purchases of virtual currency, which can be used for in-game items. Coin packs of up to 600,000 coins are bought from the Main Menu. You can turn off in-app purchasing in your device settings.
