Plexamp

A Plex music player for your own library

Plexamp is a music player made by Plex, Inc., the developer of the Plex app. It plays music stored on a Plex Media Server, so the library you listen to is the one you have already set up on your server. Using it requires both a Plex Media Server and a Plex account.

The developer pitches it at audiophiles who care about playback details, at people who curate their own collections, and at listeners of any age who want a dedicated player for Plex music.

Equalizer, preamp and gapless playback

The sound controls include a 7-band equalizer and a preamp you can adjust. Loudness leveling is listed as a way to keep volume more even from one track to the next.

Gapless playback removes the silence between tracks, which matters for albums meant to run straight through. Sweet Fades and softer transitions are the listing's names for how songs move into each other.

Pre-caching for interrupted connections

Pre-caching stores upcoming music in advance, so playback can carry on when the connection to the server is interrupted. The listing gives a tunnel as the example of when this helps.

UltraBlur backgrounds, visualizers and themes

The visual side of the player includes UltraBlur backgrounds, more than a dozen visualizers that react to the music, and four visual themes to choose from. These are display options for the playing screen and do not change how the music sounds.
