What PlugShare maps and who uses it
PlugShare is a map of public EV and Tesla charging stations, built around reports from its driver community. The developer describes it as the largest community of EV drivers, and the map is meant for anyone who needs to find a place to charge a battery away from home.
Searches on the map can be narrowed by the plug the car uses, the charger's speed and the operator running the station. The listing says station details cover every major charging network in North America and Europe, along with much of the rest of the world.
Matching a charger to your car's plug
The plug filter separates CHAdeMO connectors from SAE/CCS ones, so a driver can hide stations that will not fit the car. Tesla Superchargers appear among the DC fast chargers, which lets a Tesla owner check those sites alongside other fast-charging options.
A driver can also choose between Level 1, Level 2 and DC fast chargers. Level 1 and Level 2 units are slower and suit longer stops, while DC fast chargers are the faster option for a quick top-up on a trip.
Picking a charging network and its sites
The provider filter limits the map to a single network. The listing names ChargePoint, Electrify America, EVgo, Blink, Volta, bp pulse, Pod Point and many others, including Tesla Destination sites.
Because the map covers networks from several countries, a driver who uses one operator's membership can check whether its stations are nearby before setting out.
Reading driver reviews and photos
Drivers add reviews and photos to the stations they use, and those notes stay attached to each site on the map. The developer says these contributions are meant to help other drivers make a more informed choice about where to charge.
Photos and written reviews give a view of a site before arrival, though the content comes from individual users rather than from the networks themselves.
