Magikarp Jump is an official Pokémon simulation game from The Pokémon Company, built around Magikarp, the fish that is usually considered the weakest Pokémon. It cannot learn strong moves. Its only real action is flopping and splashing, so the game is about raising it over time.
The controls are simple, and the game is meant for short sessions that can be repeated. It suits players who like to raise a creature gradually, and fans who want a light Pokémon game rather than a battle-focused one. The Play listing shows a 4.7 average from about 467,000 ratings and more than 10,000,000 installs.
Food appears on the screen, and tapping it feeds your Magikarp. You can also set it to complete training, which increases its Jump Power. Jump Power is the main measure of how far your Magikarp gets in the game's jumping.
When one Magikarp has been raised, the next generation starts from that point. The listing says each generation grows faster than the one before it, so breeding is how progress builds up over time.
Magikarp come in unusual patterns, including calico and polka dots. You find them while playing, and the rarer ones are the ones worth showing off.
When you find a rare Magikarp, you can share it to your social media networks. The listing presents this as the main reason to show a catch to friends.
Several popular Pokémon, including Pikachu and Piplup, can appear to help your Magikarp grow. The listing says you befriend them by continuing to play, and it does not say which other Pokémon can appear.
You can also decorate the pond where your Magikarp lives. The listing says decorations make the pond look the way you want and help your Magikarp grow faster.
Play data is saved on the local device. The in-app backup function copies your saved data at that moment to a server, and the listing recommends backing up often.
The Shop is where you buy items, and it needs a working internet connection. The listing warns that a poor connection during a purchase can corrupt or lose data. Some features are free of charge, and the listing says to make sure those work before buying anything.
The build we hold is Pokémon: Magikarp Jump 1.3.11 (APK) for Android 5.0 and up.
