RealVNC Viewer is the phone side of a remote desktop setup. It shows the screen of a Mac, Windows or Linux computer on your Android device, so you can work on that machine when you are not sitting in front of it.
Once connected, the mouse and keyboard controls go to the remote computer. The listing presents this as a way to reach a home or office machine from anywhere, which makes it most useful for people who need occasional access to a desktop they left running.
Each computer you want to reach needs RealVNC Connect installed, which is downloaded from realvnc.com. You then sign in to the Viewer with your RealVNC account details.
Computers set up under that account appear in the app on their own. Tapping one starts a screen share session with it.
You can also connect without a RealVNC account by entering a computer's IP address. The listing says this works with RealVNC Connect under an Enterprise subscription, and with VNC-compatible software from other vendors.
Direct connections can depend on network settings. The listing notes that firewalls and port-forwarding routers may need to be configured before a connection goes through.
RealVNC Connect asks for a password on each remote computer by default. The listing says you may need to enter the same user name and password you use to log in to that computer.
