Gmail handles several accounts from different providers and filters junk for free, but the Gemini writing, search and calendar tricks it leads with need a Google AI Pro or Ultra plan.

Gmail is Google's own email app for Android phones and tablets, and it is the default mail client for a huge share of Android users; Play counts installs above 10,000,000,000. It reads Gmail, but it will also hold accounts from other email providers, so one app can cover a work address and a personal one.
The everyday pieces are what you would want from a mail client: search across your inbox, filtering of junk before it lands, and a way to manage several accounts side by side. On top of that sit newer tools: summary cards pinned above individual emails to surface the key details, and a single screen where you can unsubscribe from senders you are tired of hearing from.
The app costs nothing, and the core of it works without paying. Reading, sending, searching, multiple accounts, the unsubscribe screen and the spam filtering are all part of the base offer. Google says the filtering stops more than 99.9% of spam, phishing and malware, which is a bold figure to take on trust, but protection of that kind is the main reason many people pick a large provider at all.
The features Google puts at the front are another matter. Asking Gemini to find something in your inbox or your Google Drive files, the Help me write drafting assistant, contextual Smart Reply and turning an email into a calendar invite with Gemini all require a Google AI Pro or Ultra plan and an internet connection. Those are recurring subscriptions, so the AI half of this app is a paid add-on rather than something the free app gives you.
Gmail works best when the rest of your life already runs through Google. The Add to Calendar button creates events in Google Calendar specifically, and Drive search only helps if your files live in Drive. Someone using a different calendar or cloud storage gets less out of those links.
For teams, a Google Workspace plan layers on more: Gemini built in, plus access to Google Meet, Chat, Calendar invites and task lists without leaving the inbox, along with the business security and compliance controls Google pitches. That is useful if your employer already pays for Workspace, and irrelevant to an individual who does not.
For most Android owners Gmail is the sensible default: it is free, it handles more than one provider, and the unsubscribe screen and junk filtering address the two biggest inbox annoyances. A Wear OS tile adds a quick look at mail from a watch for those who want it.
Skip it, or at least temper expectations, if the AI features are what drew you in, because they come with a monthly plan attached. People who want their mail kept away from a single large company's ecosystem, or who rely on non-Google calendars and storage, will find much of the integration aimed at someone else.

TikTok - Videos, Shop & LIVEMei-Lin Chua3.7 / 5
TikTok costs nothing to install and pairs an interest-driven video feed with free music and editing tools, but LIVE and shopping make it busier than a plain video app, and it suits watchers more than people looking to keep up with friends.
LinkedIn: Community & NetworkHafiz Rahman3.7 / 5
LinkedIn pairs job search, alerts and quick applications with a professional feed and a contact network. It is essential for job seekers, but it rewards people who post, and the profile is the entry ticket.
Google Keep - Notes and listsHafiz Rahman4.0 / 5
Google Keep is a free, cross-device notepad for quick text, photo and voice notes, shared lists and reminders. It suits fast capture and shopping lists, not long documents or anyone wary of keeping notes with Google.
TikTokMei-Lin Chua3.6 / 5
TikTok is a free short-video app whose main offer is a feed shaped by what you watch. It suits casual viewers well, but the endless design and behaviour-driven tuning are the price of entry.
