The Google app now leads with AI Mode, Lens and Search Live instead of a plain search box, and for most Android phones it is free and already installed, so the real question is what you give up to an always-on Google account.

This is Google's own search app for Android, the one behind the search bar widget on most home screens. It bundles text search, voice search, and Google Lens (point your camera at something to identify it, translate it, or shop for it) into a single app, and adds a personalized news feed called Discover.
The pitch has shifted hard toward AI. The developer describes AI Mode, a chat-style search where you can ask follow-up questions and get synthesized answers with links out to the web, plus AI Overviews that summarize a topic at the top of regular search results. Search Live lets you talk and point your camera at once for a running conversation with the app. None of this replaces classic search results entirely, according to the listing; it sits on top of them.
Lens is the most immediately useful piece for a lot of people: pointing your phone at a plant, a menu, a math problem, or a broken bike part and getting an answer back is a real convenience the listing spells out in specific terms, including reverse image search and real-time translation over a hundred languages. Circle to Search, letting you scribble on whatever's on your screen to search it, sounds like the natural extension of that, but the developer is upfront that it only works on select premium phones and in some languages, so don't assume your device qualifies.
Hum to Search (hum a tune, get a song ID) is a small but genuinely handy feature that doesn't need an account or a subscription to work. Discover, on the other hand, is only as good as the profile Google already has on you: it personalizes news and articles based on your interests, which means the more you're signed in and searching, the more it has to work with. That is a fair trade for some users and an uncomfortable one for others, but the listing doesn't pretend otherwise: it explicitly points to privacy controls for deleting search history, which suggests the company expects that history to build up by default.
There's no price tag and no in-app purchase here, which is standard for a Google system app. The cost is data and attention rather than money: AI Mode, Discover, and personalized Lens results all lean on knowing who you are and what you've searched before. If you're comfortable being logged into a Google account already, none of this is new ground. If you're trying to use your phone with minimal account tie-in, this app makes that harder, since several of its headline features assume you're signed in.
The AI push also means more of what you see is generated rather than retrieved. AI Overviews and AI Mode summarize information instead of just linking to it, and the listing doesn't say anything about how those summaries are checked for accuracy on tricky topics, which is worth keeping in mind before treating an AI Overview as a final answer rather than a starting point.
As a free, preinstalled utility that folds camera search, voice search, and AI chat into one app, this does more with a phone's built-in search bar than it used to. The Lens and Hum to Search tools are useful on their own without much downside. The parts to be wary of are the ones that depend on premium hardware you may not have, and the account-driven personalization that makes Discover and AI Mode more useful the more they know about you. That's not a flaw exactly, but it's the trade the app is built around, and it's worth going in aware of it rather than discovering it later.

PUBG MOBILEMei-Lin Chua3.7 / 5
PUBG MOBILE is a free 100-player battle royale for phones with team modes and customisable controls. The listing is thin on pricing and long on slogans, and that is where the caution lies.
Android AutoHafiz Rahman3.9 / 5
Android Auto puts a simplified, voice-driven version of your phone's driving apps on a compatible car screen. It is free and does the core job, but the listing reads dated and leans on your car.
Google MessagesKelvin Ooi4.1 / 5
Google Messages is Google's free SMS and RCS texting app. It brings modern chat features to ordinary phone numbers, but the best parts depend on carriers, other users' setups and AI extras.
RobloxMei-Lin Chua3.6 / 5
Roblox is a free launcher for a huge catalogue of player-made multiplayer games. The listing is vague about spending and safety, and the content rating is 16+, which matters for any parent.
TelegramKelvin Ooi4.1 / 5
Telegram is a free, cloud-synced messenger built for large groups, big file transfers and multi-device use, but its default chats are not end-to-end encrypted, and that matters.
