What the Rocketbook app does for handwritten notes
Rocketbook is a companion app for paper notebooks and whiteboards. You write on a Rocketbook page, scan it with your phone, and the scan goes to an online service you have chosen. The app is aimed at people who prefer writing by hand but want their notes searchable and shareable.
The listing presents the app as a way to keep handwritten notes in cloud storage without a separate scanning workflow. It says the scans are auto-cropped and that the seven-symbol shortcut system gets them to the cloud faster than other scanning apps, though that comparison is the developer's claim.
Scanning pages and whiteboards with shortcuts
The core of the app is a seven-symbol shortcut system. The symbols mark where a scan should go, so the app can send each page to a specific place without extra taps. The listing says this works for pages from Rocketbook notebooks and for whiteboards fitted with Rocketbook Beacons.
Beacons are adjustable attachments for whiteboards. Once a board is fitted with them, the app can capture and send what is written on it in the same way as a notebook page. Scans are cropped automatically before they are sent.
Searching and transcribing handwriting
The app's handwriting recognition, which the listing calls OCR, lets you search for words you wrote by hand. Searching happens inside the app, so you do not need to read through each scanned page to find a note.
Two other uses are listed. Your handwritten text can become the filename of a scan, which saves renaming files later. You can also have a full-page transcription emailed to you, turning the handwritten page into typed text.
Sending scans to cloud services and email
Scans can be sent as PDFs or JPEGs. The listing names Google Drive, Dropbox, Trello, Evernote, Box, OneDrive, OneNote, Slack, Google Photos and email as destinations. You can choose specific locations within these services, so a scan lands in the folder or board you use for that kind of note.
Because each destination is set through the shortcut system, one notebook can feed several services. A page of meeting notes and a page of sketches can go to different places without changing settings each time.
Rocketbook notebooks and products it works with
The listing says the app is built for a range of Rocketbook products. Core is a reusable notebook, Mini is a pocket-sized version of it, and Wave is described as a notebook you erase by microwaving. Color is a reusable coloring book for children, and One is a single-use notebook. Whiteboards become compatible when fitted with Beacons.
The app is for people who use these products. A person writing in a Core or Mini notebook, or drawing in a Color book, would use the same shortcut system to send their pages to cloud services.
