What Signal Strength is for
Signal Strength is an Android network tool that reports the signal reaching your phone and your WiFi as numbers. The listing sets this against signal bars, which it describes as unreliable, and offers dBm readings instead. It covers 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G and WiFi in one app.
The uses the listing gives are finding the strongest spot in a home or office, choosing where to put a WiFi router, confirming that a 5G connection is really 5G, and working out why a network is weak or slow. Each of these comes down to comparing readings from one place to another, which is the job the meter is built around.
Reading live signal strength in dBm
The meter shows signal strength for each network type in dBm and updates it in real time. Because the readings are live, you can see them change as you move between rooms or floors.
A network connection check and an internet speed test sit alongside the meter. Together they let you tell whether a weak signal is also a slow connection, which is the question the listing raises when it talks about improving speed and stability.
Scanning WiFi and choosing a router spot
The WiFi scanner lists nearby networks with their channel, bandwidth and frequency. Those are the values you would compare when picking a channel for your own router, and the listing names router placement as one of the main reasons to use the scanner.
Link speed and latency are shown for the connection you are on. Read with the scanner, they give a way to compare the router's position against the spots you are testing.
Cell tower details, statistics and logs
For mobile networks the app shows cell tower details. It also keeps network statistics and a log, so you can go back over readings after a session rather than relying on what was on screen at the time.
The listing says these details help you check whether a connection is a real 5G connection. That is the one place it describes verifying a network type rather than measuring its strength.
Premium features: ad-free use and home screen widgets
Ad-free use and home screen signal widgets are both grouped under premium features on the listing. The widgets put signal figures on the home screen so you can see them without opening the app.
Only the two items named under premium features are described as premium. The meter, scanner, speed test and cell tower details are presented as part of the main feature set.
Accuracy and sending a debug report
The developer says the app gives more accurate, real-time data than signal bars. The listing also notes that a very few devices may report signal data differently.
If a device gives readings that look wrong, the app lets you send a debug report from inside it. That is the route the listing gives for reporting a problem with the data.
