What SurePayroll for Employers is for
If you already run payroll through a SurePayroll online account and want to handle it away from your desk, this is the companion app for that account. It is aimed at the employer or payroll administrator who needs to get a pay run out, or sign one off, when they are not at a computer. The listing says it is free for existing SurePayroll customers, and it works only with an existing SurePayroll online payroll account, so it is not a standalone payroll service.
The app covers both employees and independent contractors. The listing says payroll taxes are calculated and handled automatically once a payment is set up, so the person using the app is entering pay and approving it rather than working out withholdings by hand. Most of the functions described below are about getting a pay run from entry to approval.
Entering pay and time for each run
The app handles hourly staff, salaried staff and independent contractors. For hourly and salaried workers you enter wages and hours for the period, and you can also record vacation, sick and personal time in the same entry. That means a single payroll run can include overtime-style hours, paid leave and regular pay for one employee without switching screens.
Before anything is sent for approval, the app lets you preview the payroll totals and the payment methods chosen for each person. This is the point where a mistaken figure or the wrong payment route would show up. The preview is the only check the listing describes before submission, so it is worth reading the totals against what you expect each time.
Approvals, notifications and who is told
Once a run is submitted, the app sends notifications about submission and approval. The listing says alerts also go to the Approver and the Administrator to show the approval status, so the people responsible for signing off and for overseeing the account both see where a run stands. This is useful when the person who prepares a payroll is not the person who approves it.
These alerts depend on the same SurePayroll online account as everything else in the app. A run that has not been approved will sit in that state until someone with approval rights acts on it, and the alerts simply report that status.
Deadlines, holidays and calendar updates
The app shows your payroll deadlines, bank holidays and birthdays in one place, along with compliance updates. Deadlines matter most here, since a missed cut-off moves a pay date. Bank holidays affect when money can actually move, and the birthday listing is a simple reminder of who is on the team.
Compliance updates are listed as a feature, but the listing does not say what kinds of update they cover, so treat them as a notification stream rather than a record of specific rules.
Reports and employee contact details
The reports show detailed earnings for employees and for the company, along with taxes, deductions and year-to-date totals. These are the figures that tend to be needed at the end of a quarter or when an employee asks what has been taken off their pay, so the app gives you that information without opening the full online account.
The app also gives access to employee contact information. Since payroll is usually run by the person who already keeps those details, this is mainly a way to reach someone about a pay question without leaving the app.
Security settings and the login session
The listing says all communications between the app and SurePayroll are protected by encryption, and it describes this as industry-leading, though it does not name the standard. It also says the login session ends automatically after a period of inactivity, so a phone left unlocked and open to the app will not stay signed in indefinitely.
Finally, the listing states that account number information is never transmitted by the app. For anyone handling bank details on a phone, that is the specific claim to note, since it describes what the app sends rather than how the rest of the account is protected.
